DOE sends Wild Letter to Universities on Turtle Island

i was flipping thru the yale magazine --> an found a gem of an opportunity to CLAP BACK AT THE GOVERNMENT.

SOME THOUGHTS:

To me, this is just a pile of dog whistles. Racist, Fascist, "America First" propaganda. McMahon uses that phrase in the Document. It's the kind of letter we'd dissect in a junior seminar of White America, which I took Spring of 2016. It was taught by an exceptional young professor who did their part in exposing us to what I, as an American Studies major, conclude is a more accurate history of the U.S.: Which had a bustling civilization of thousands of unique tribes with governances and languages, then white colonizers came to this land, spreading disease and warped ideas of shame and Christianity, the way they did all over this planet. WHAT A MESS. What I took away with my American Studies degree is that America is not just NOT exceptional, it is also NOT GUARANTEED. Borders CHANGE. History has revealed this.

I took climate science courses at Yale as well. Hard science. If the borders dont change politically, the literal shape of continents is shifting due to water rising. Catastrophes are becoming commonplace. They will continue to. To say that the universities of the land need to be protecting America's Image IS WILD!!!!! We are ONE planet, ONE species, that is destroying our shot at longevity on this planet. Focus on that, McMahon.

When I was a student at Yale, we took diverse classes because there were distribution requirements, the humanities, science, quantitative reasoning, writing, and language i think it was? That was awesome. It made sure that I broadened my subject intake instead to become wellrounded and well-read.

Have no fear, Linda McMahon, Yale IS rigorous. I can't speak to how they're handling AI because I am not there now, but plagiarism was serious offense. I can speak to the education I received, with ample Financial Aid, as the first in my family to attend a 4-year school. I graduated debt free, with a sense that I could tackle problems in the world.

And that's what I do. I tackle problems. Mostly medical ones for my family and myself. I'm disabled. That was a hard thing to swallow at Yale when EVERYONE SEEMED SO CAPABLE AND POLISHED, and there I was, the scholarship kid with a slew of diagnoses. I write. I perform comedy which often comes out as tragedy, but I perform it just the same. I gained that confidence in a black box theater at Yale in Clown and Physical Comedy, a theater class that changed me forever. Yale changed me forever. Because there were SO MANY TALKS, EVENTS, PANELS, GROUPS, JOBS, that one could engage in and be a cool, thoughtful GLOBAL citizen. I made friends with folks who were life long New Yorkers, and refugees from far away countries. But are they really far away? Because Yale supported me on my goal to travel abroad. I spent a summer in Germany, And a month in each Vietnam, Morocco and Bolivia my junior spring at Yale. The world is not all that big. We need to be making friends with our comrades abroad, not making enemies. I am an agent of peace.

One motto of ours is For God, For Country, and For Yale. We were founded as a American University, but serve for the greater good of mankind. We are a curious and neurotic bunch, and deserve to continue as an institution of higher learning without being boggled with three pages of questions from the DOE, but thank you for getting my blood pressure up on a Wednesday night, it usually runs low.
